Our client offers attractive position for an enthusiastic financial with reporting knowledge. In this position you should be able to translate complex accounting topics into practical reporting solutions and guidance and challenge and train the business on these. There are a number of different angles on this role, which include working together with people from all layers of the organization; as from business operations through European board. You are the key stakeholder regarding accounting and reporting matters within the Europe Reporting team. This doesn’t mean you’re an IFRS expert however you are able to translate rules to the business and help them to understand why, how, etc. Through your enthusiasm and vision you are able to determine the right direction for this position and you naturally lead the way for others to follow.
Within the team, the Financial Controller will have a focus on a number of specific IFRS topics, such as tax, pension, leasing, revenue recognition. The Financial Controller is responsible for analysing and understanding the Europe tax and pension positions in the balance sheet, income statement and relevant disclosures that form part of our clients’ reports. You coordinate the tax review process with the European country managers who prepare a tax memo which explains their reported tax position. Another key focus of the role will be further improvement of documentation and training material which will be used to train finance staff across Europe. Facilitating these trainings is also part of this role. The Financial Controller also reviews accounting guidance and assures distribution and implementation of this guidance within Europe. Your role is to translate, to train in reporting. You can ask tax specialists and other to help you out on very specific items. In this role you bridge the gap between theory and practice and you are the linking-pin between the reporting team and stakeholders. The organization is so complex. It will take you probably 1 year to be fully operational. Your manager will coach you.
The Financial Controller liaises between all levels of the organisation and presents results to key stakeholders, including external auditors. The role involves limited travel (around 2 days per quarter) to other countries in Europe.
In addition to the tasks outlined above the Financial Controller participates in projects to improve various financial reporting processes in Europe with the goal of becoming an expert in understanding the reporting framework. From this position of expertise the Financial Controller contributes to the development, implementation and continuous optimization of the reporting framework, including supporting processes, policies, guidelines, manuals and tools.

Know how & experience:
- Academic degree in business economics or accountancy, preferably a CPA degree (RA)
- > 7 years relevant experience
- Strong working knowledge of and interest in translating financial reporting principles and accounting standards (IFRS) to the business
- Strong analytical skills; able to understand tax / statutory / group reporting in a complex organization
- Excellent communication skills, fluent in English; other languages are a pre
- Ability to build strong relationships and collaborate across different cultures and on all levels
